Benson Idahosa University Matriculates 494 Students For 2016/2017 Academic Session

The auditorium of the Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin City glittered in blue,gold and white decorations as freshers swore their oath of matriculation.

The matriculants set looked elegant in their black academic gowns crested with the university’s logo at the top left and right corner.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Izevbigie congratulated them on their admission into the institution. He told them that the privilege comes with responsibilities that require the
students to take their studies serious.

Speaking on the theme: ‘The importance of the next 48-60 months,’ he urged the 494
matriculating students to be of good
character and uphold the institution’s core values.

Izevbigie urged the students to aim for excellence, which can only be achieved with discipline.

He assured parents that children wards would receive the best training from the school which boasts of state-of-the-art facilities and an uninterrupted calendar.

High points of the event were the symbolic signing by representatives of each faculty and the administering of oath by the Registrar,Rev Mike Okagbare.

Okagbare told the students that the oath is binding on them and they must live up to the expectation of the university which to change
Nigeria.

He urged them not to go against the letters of the oath as it will attract penalties based on the school’s students disciplinary Act.

Fresh Biochemistry student, Chiobiokolo Daniel, said: “It has been a great experience since I was admitted into the university. I will
work hard to achieve academic excellence.”

Another fresher, from the Chemistry
department, Chiwado Okeke was unhappy that her family could not witness the event.

She said: “The matriculation is boring
because my parents are not around. But since examination is around the corner, I have to prepare myself for the challenge.”
