This is to inform the entire Lagos State University Community, the Lagos State Government, Security Operatives, Media Houses and the General Public, that the Lagos State University Students' Union
hereby wishes to dissociate itself from any protest(s) being planned by some mischievous fellows, using the social media as a springboard.
The reason for the purported protest is unclear and inarticulate.
The Lagos State University Management has already dismissed the rumour about LASU students paying any additional fee to their school fees.
In addition, the Students' Union also held a binding Congress, which is the highest Student decision making platform on Wednesday,17th August, 2016, at the Faculty of Science where everyone agreed to a peaceful electioneering and transition
period.
Hence, the unexpected call for a
protest in a period when; well meaning students are preparing for Students’Union elections and the Second (Rain) Semester examinations.
Unfortunately, it has become crystal
clear that there are some people who detest peaceful environment and stable academic calendar but instead have a great lust for violence. It is on this note
that, the Lagos State University Students' Union (LASUSU) hereby dissociates SELF FROM ANY PROTEST(s)/RIOT(s) BEING
PLANNED BY PERSON(S) UNDER THE AUSPICES OF ANY GROUP/NAME.
Thus, the STUDENTS' UNION WILL
NEVER STAND BY ANY STUDENT(S)
NABBED IN THE ACT AND WILL ALLOW SUCH STUDENT(S) TO FULLY FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS.
The Yorubas would say : "Wooni ki
omode ma dete, ti oba sha ti le da
inugbo gbe".
While as a responsive and responsible Union we admit there is no perfect World anywhere and we have some issues still being worked on, it must be understood that the language of discourse in every
sane 21st century society is constructive debate and DIALOGUE.
Unnecessary protests most times leads to riot, destruction of properties, risk of students' lives and eventual closure of the University for months as seen in UNIPORT, UNICAL, AAUA, LAUTECH &
FUNAAB (some days ago).
The aforementioned acts and occurrences are things of the past in Lagos State University and any student caught trying to reinvent them will eventually have only himself/herself to blame.
We hereby urge all reasonable students to go about their normal activities and remain law abiding.
Thanks.
